Album Review
I have to admit the first time I heard this cd I wasn't
much into it. There's nothing new about their sound. Kind
of a throw back if you ask me. The lead vocalist
Scotty Cantino
reminds me a lot of Wayne Coyne of
The Flaming Lips. Which is a
good thing.
I really like the touches of harmonica through out the
album.
Especially on the opening track "On and On." The lyrics
on "I'd Be a Fool" are very striking. You can't help but be
moved by this one. Now that I think about it the lyrics
through
out the disc are very good a definite strength of theirs
for
sure. I also like how they blend elements of folk and
modern
rock together. Besides the lyrics what I think I like
most about
this one is how it comes across like the recording of
this
session was very inspired. Very heart felt at times.
These boys
will be a force to be reckon with if given a chance.
This album represents the understated greatness of indie
folk
rock. Sometimes the song writing isn't quite there. But
hey
it's easy to look past the short comings of this one.
This is
a very deceptive album. At first you don't think their is
anything
special about it. But after a few listens you begin to
feel like
a fool for almost giving up on it. It maybe a little
rough around
the edges. But heck isn't that what good folk music is.
