Alyssa Johnston: Why did you
decide to join the Lassie Foundation full time?
Frank Lenz: The answer
should be obvious, I want to be apart of something brilliant and
new. The band inspires me.
AJ: Are you still working
with Fold Zandura?
Frank: I will be playing
with Fold when ever they need me here at home.
AJ: Do you know
about their plans for a new drummer?
Frank: I know that Kevin
from Quail is currently with them and he is a great drummer.
AJ: Have you been
involved in other bands in the past?
Frank: A few, I mostly
have been a working musician my whole life, that means that I
have played anything for anybody if
they pay me.
AJ: How did you get
started playing the drums?
Frank: My father is a
musician and I started when I was very young. When I knew I wanted
to play the drums he made sure that I learned correctly. There's no
reason for it, I've just always played the drums.
AJ: My brother,
Chad, saw Fold Zandura twice in concert and said you broke 2 snare
heads in one show, and killed a small wiener dog named Freighter (or
was that Trucker?) with a flying splinter. Why do you pound
the drums so much harder than most drummers?
Frank: Because Fold Zan
was a trio, in that situation I would overplay to create some
energy on stage. Its hard to sound
powerful when there's three guys and a tape player.
In Lassie I do not have a reason to
play so hard. We have five talented members who are quite capable of
creating a wonderful live sound, I don't feel so responsible for the
rock and roll. Also, I have never harmed Eric's dog trucker, I've
only made him a bit dizzy.
AJ: What's the first
album you remember hearing?
Frank: Tower of Power, I
don't recall the title.
AJ: What music do you
listen to?
Frank: All kinds.
AJ: Do you play any
instrument besides drums?
Frank: I try to play a
little guitar but I suck. My degree was in choral conducting,
I sing sometimes.
AJ: What do you like to
do that doesn't involve music?
Frank: Read
AJ: What are your future
plans?
Frank: Make millions in
music, be in a brilliant band, and be nice to my wife. Thank
you.
