Album Review

This album has a rawness to it that I'm not to sure I like. Every time I listen to
the start of the first track "Big Reconstruction" Chris Taylor's voice sounds as if
it is teetering on the edge of no return. I think the song would of worked better
if his voice was lower in the mix. I guess you could say that for most of the album.
Taylor's lyrics are a perfect vehicle for Love Coma's straight ahead rock style,
poetic and perceptive without ever feeling forced. I do like the cluttered funky
guitar riffs on "What's Behind Those Eyes" but the song kind of fades after a little
while. But saves itself towards the end when Matt Slocom of Sixpence None The Richer
fame pops into the picture with a stellar funk solo.

The album closes with the 10 minute "On My Way." I think the guitars work well together
on this one.  The instrumental part of the song is where it excels. I think I would of enjoyed
this album much more if  some of the songs were more drawn out with more exposure of the guitars and less of Taylor's voice it kind of wears on me after awhile. Which is kind of weird because I don't feel that way when I listen to "Language of Fools."  I wouldn't really
recommend this album to people that haven't heard
Love Coma before.  Skip this one, go seek out "Language of Fools" it has a lot better song writing and it's far more accessible.
