1.  The Violet Burning  Avg. Rating: 4.1

surpasses most bands with the sheer depth of their music.  The Violet Burning, for lack of a better word, "forces" the listener to truly listen.  After listening to a Violet Burning album the listener feels as if s/he has been on an emotional-spiritual journey.      (stand out album: The Violet Burning)

2. Common Children    Avg. Rating: 4.1

have somehow fused together these diverse sonic landscapes to craft together albums of great impressiveness. On the musical aspect, their music is breath-taking and beautiful. The intense vocals and the ethereal music are so cold yet so full of emotion.  It is unfortunate that such a talented band receives such little recognition.  (stand out album: The Inbetween Time)

3. The Prayer Chain    Avg. Rating: 4.0

are able to keep the listener's interest through the soundscapes alone, never mind the irresistible melodies and good lyrics. No one revels in the sumptuous pleasures of melancholy like the Prayer Chain. Their tripped-out indie/art rock sound is one of a kind.  No other band does it quite as well.          (stand out album: Mercury)

4. Michael Knott/L.S.U.    Avg. Rating: 4.0

Any Mike Knott fan will truly appreciate and endorse Knott's love for the acoustic guitar melody. Knott is an experienced master of the underground punk/alternative scene, but always reaches out and rises above the cliche sounds/images of that scene.  He is the best at what he does, and what he does is write and create skewed shades of light and dark music that ultimately points the listener to the giver of life.     (stand out album: Rocket and a Bomb)

5. The Choir   Avg. Rating: 4.0

The Choir has long been the "thinking man's Christian Band". The lyrics are deep and poetic, the music is sometimes-rocking sometimes-atmospheric, but the whole thing works better than most any other band I know. The Choir consistently got better and better with each
new release.  More melodic than most, the Choir has strong enough
songs to cross into pop.      (stand out album: Circle Slide)

6. Aaron Sprinkle   Avg. Rating: 4.0

After being in Poor Old Lu and Rose Blossom Punch in the early to mid 90's. Aaron started a solo career  in a different direction. His rootsy acoustic folk tinged with modern rock tinges, sounds like early Bob Dylan meets the Choir. His cd's always seem to find their way back nto my player every few weeks .      (stand out album: Bareface)

7. Jars of Clay   Avg. Rating: 4.0

has held the standard of Christian music and there hasn't been many bands able to match them since they have entered the scene. Ten years into a career they never expected, Jars of Clay still remain among the elite.       (stand out album: Jars of Clay)

8. Starflyer 59   Avg. Rating: 3.9

Since Jason Martin writes every song, produces and plays most instruments on
the albums and EPs he's released, there's no need for a conventional lineup.
They have experimented with many different styles of music through the years.
Starflyer 59 has always maintained a sad mood and this is demonstrated
best by Jason's soft mellow vocals.   Starflyer 59 have made a pretty solid career out of cranking the amps up to 11.  Throughout the band's shoe-gazer, emo, and punk-pop periods.
They have created some of the best music around, and will continue to do so I'm sure of it.

(stand out album: Leave Here A Stranger)

9. Delirious?   Avg. Rating: 3.8

Reaching an entire generation doesn't seem an unattainable goal, when you examine the acclaim that Delirious has already amassed. The chunky power chords, insistent grooves and memorable choruses.  Comparisons to bands such as U2 and Oasis, who built their phenomenal careers on a grassroots fan base, don't seem far-fetched at all.  The just might be the true spiritual heirs of Pink Floyd.  Take it or leave it they are the greatest innovative worship band around today.
(stand out album: Glo)

10. King's X   Avg. Rating: 3.7

with they're flying vocals and harmonies that could have given Queen a run for their money. Melodies that reveal subtle complexities and musicianship that could almost rival Rush. KX is all those bands, plus a little Yes, Grateful Dead and Deep Purple, filtered through their own prism of ear candy and rock-n-roll. (stand out album: Gretchen Goes to Nebraska)
