When you think of the
modern rock world that adds some rap to the mix you may
automatically think of bands like Linkin Park or Limp
Bizkit. Well it is time to get that picture out of your
head. Arkansas Christian band Tinman Jones seem to
have found a level ground that is above these bands, and
they add some true originality to their music. The music
is more melodic and the vocals are more individual and
recognizable from so many other bands that simply try to
cut themselves from the same mold as the million selling
bands. Tinman Jones also possess the ability to
rock with their message at the same time. Regarding
themselves as a reflection of the Wizard of Oz' tinman
only they are looking for their spiritual rather than
physical sense.
A pleasantly surprising
CD that offers up as much of DC Talk and the Newsboys as
they do of bands like Linkin Park in the secular market.
The songs are crafted and arranged in a way that make the
grooves fresh and the lyrics sharp. Poetic is a
disk filled with enthusiasm and zeal. The sounds are good
time rock presented with a sheer love of what they are
doing. You see, the harmony and pleasure that Tinman
Jones exudes is contagious as the listener will get
as drawn into the infectious sounds as much as the band.
Attempting
to break through, Tinman Jones have run the gambit
in the past 7 years from an indie band to signing on a
label (Cross Driven). The short wait paid off though as
the band sound fresh with the new CD, a maturing and
polishing process has obviously been on the drawing
board. The originality the 5 piece outfit radiates put
the band a step above as they truly blend their
influences with a new and positive approach that works
for Tinman Jones. If you are hankering for edgy
guitar, strong vocals, and as much pop as modern rock you
will eat this up, a great new release, one of the best
Contemporary Christian CDs of the last 2 years.
In a world where music
seems to be not so much created as it is cloned, these
boys shine a new light on these 11 tracks. The vocals of
Bryan Alexis is one of the strongest factors in this
offering, the catchy riffs Nick Starnes throws out are
another. Keith Alexis provides a powerful bass line, the
drum kit attack of Kevin Sparkman, and the rap vocals of
Don Guthrie help to fill in the picture. A creative
musical work that ensures the boys more success down the
road as long as they don't try to record a carbon copy of
this CD on their next release. I definitely recommend
Poetic for listeners that can't get enough of driving
and gritty pop rock.
