Album Reviews
This
piano based group, consisting of Britt Edwards, Mike Simons
and Trae Drose, have crafted an album of piano-based pop
interspersed with rock hooks, strong messages and
instrumental creativity. The overall tone is upbeat and
there is a great balance to the CD. There was more depth to
the lyrics than most people expect from pop bands,
especially in cuts like "Alive in Love". If you like artists
like Billy Joel or Gavin DeGraw, you will probably enjoy
this CD.

The sophomore release by The Swift
brings us more piano-rock pop tunes that convey an
unambiguously Christian message utilizing catchy pop
melodies. Their first CD was called one of the freshest
sounding releases of the year, and the resulting fans
should enjoy this follow-up effort, since not much has
changed in the sound.
Jason Burkum is back producing along with Nathan
Dantzler, and result is another disc laden with
infectious tunes. These guys are the antithesis of the
moody brooding rock bands. They might hit some hard
times, but the emphasis is always on God, and that keeps
a smile on their faces. Although not really billed as a
modern worship CD, the project fits the genre quite well
because of the vertical focus of most of the songwriting.
Frontman Britt Edwards explains how the songs, "speak(s)
of God's nature and how he loves. You Burn talks
about how the Lord's love pursues us like fire and
consumes everything in its path. Unbelievable
focuses on how overwhelming his love is. I Need You
talks about the healing nature of God's love in the
lowest point of a believer's life. Now That You've
Found Me is written from the perspective of a new
believer, wanting to grow."
If you liked the acclaimed
self-titled debut
from The Swift, you won't need any persuading to pick up
Today. If you haven't heard the band yet, visit
the website to hear some samples. You just might become a
fan.
Today will appeal to those who prefer their pop
served by keyboards along with the guitars. Artists like
Ben Folds Five and Maroon5 are often mentioned when
describing The Swift. I'll just say they're a good pop
band, and if you like Keith Green, you'll like The Swift.
