Album Review
This 14 track album contains
unreleased songs from the "Mercury" sessions as well as tracks from
their December 31st show in California. This time the Chain moves away
from the Mercury album percussion based theme and crank out some tracks
that simply groove. "Chalk" and "Loverboy" are extremely catchy love
songs, while "Friend or Foe" almost demands to be played at loud volumes
with windows down driving on a sunny day. Here Eric Campuzano's bass
line drives the home the song. The "live" cuts are equally as
impressive. Taken mostly from the "Shawl" and "Mercury" albums, it
starts off with a grooving version of "Wrounde" and ends with a
beautiful, melodic version of "The Hollow." If you even slightly enjoy
Prayer Chain's music, THIS IS A MUST HAVE. If you have heard about this
band and are wondering about a first album to buy; this is the one. The
live tracks gives you a preview of their earlier brilliant work and the
studio songs are simply outstanding. My only gripe is that they left off
"The Other Side of Heaven" and "Lose Yourself Tonight", which they
recorded during the Mercury sessions and are very hard to get a hold of.
Still, a awesome album. |
