This is one heck
of a great album. This band totally surprised me with this one. By far
this is the best record Bulletproof has ever put out. I have heard their
two previous releases on Tooth and Nail, and they didn’t quite seem to
stand out like this one did. They kind of have that drony, wall of
guitar sound going on, yet they still manage to keep a very strong pop
feel. Sure they aren’t all upbeat pop tunes, but more or less sad
sounding pop tunes. There are songs you can bop your head to, yet their
are also songs you can just lay in your bed and think to. The things
that stand out most with this release are the beautifully sung vocals,
the creativity (in both the lyrics and the music), and the great sound
quality. Vocally they are very “English” sounding, often compared to
bands like Radiohead, and Morrisey. I even thought the Beatles a little
bit too, like the Beatles more experimental stuff. These guys are not
quite as ground-breaking as Radiohead, but they definitely are good. At
times aggressive, at times soft, Luxury has the formula down. If your
looking for something refreshing, go out and get this CD. You won’t be
disappointed.

I hated the
first Luxury album. I remember when Tooth and Nail released it it
was supposed to be really cutting edge so I was excited about
hearing it.
I really wanted to like it. I tried to like it. I listened to
it over and over thinking I was evenually going to "get it". I never
did...
I'm so happy I gave them a second chance.
Their new self-titled release on
BULLETPROOF
is the release that fulfills the initial high hopes that reviewers
like me had about the band.
This is some of the edgiest and most inventive music released in the
christian market. It stands up well along side any modern rock being
released today.
Poetic, experimental, superb....

What a pleasant
surprise! I really had no idea of the past of this former Tooth and Nail
Band, but I liked what I heard. Luxury mixes an English pop sound with
American themes. Much like Radiohead and Blur, Luxury utilizes walls of
guitars with whiny, emotional vocals with what are seemingly UK accents.
But note, this is not, I repeat, not emo. This is Luxury. They have
their own sound that is distinct from most American bands but could
easily be lost in the hustle and bustle across the Atlantic.
Coincidentally, they are sometimes thrown into the same pot with The
Verve, Morrissey, and The London Suede. But let's get to the point -- I
really dug this album. I would even say that this is an artistic album.
Unfortunately I would need months of listening to really give this album
an "A". Never the less, if you like Radiohead, The Verve, or Elliot
Smith you should like this.
