Album Review
Sometimes you want to play a record that just feels good.
You’re not interested in hearing something that redefines
the boundaries of genres. You just want the buzz of slick
power pop. May I suggest Yellow Second. This is a
band that will not change the musical landscape of the
planet, but they just might put a smirk on your face. And
isn’t that enough? Their major debut Altitude is
surprisingly solid from start to finish. Many emo
contemporaries like, say, Anberlin, should
take notes. Nothing on this record cuts deep, but the
lead vocals and innovative harmonies win my liking.
Altitude is a fine pop recording for a band cutting their
teeth in an overplayed market. For fans of Copeland,
Number One Gun, Brian Wilson, and
Mae. These guys could very well be a
breakthrough band in 2005. Lots of potential, and an
album that’s proving to be a persistent grower. 3 out of
5 today, but maybe a 4 out of 5 tomorrow.
