Album Review
The
stylistic direction of I don't Buy It, while concurrently
popular, also criminally
scrutinized by some. Because piano rock seems to be the
new fad these days. Even
though these songs are centered around the keyboard. He
has a style uniquely his own.
The gentle intensity of these tracks offers a sharp
contrast to a lot of the nonsense
the radio wants to feed us these days.
The first track, the title track ''I Don't Buy It" is very
misleading. By the sounds of
this one, you think you are in for a grouping of pop song
melancholy through out the
disc. That's not the case well at least the pop song
part. I like to think this song is
about having a bad day, and the frustrations that come
along with it. Patrick shares his
adamant sense of faith and spiritual devotion with the
line "Today I proclaim the name
of God, Today he just sat up there and watched." I think
most of us have felt the
frustrations that leak out on this song.
"After I'm Gone" showcases Patrick's
creativity. This one
is easily his most creative
track on the Ep. And is easily one of my favorites. I
only wish he would have strived
to be this creative through out the whole endeavor. "Next
Time Around" is a sleeper
track kind of boring yet kind of striking with a subtle
taste of beauty. I think if he
reworked it, it could really be a stand out song. "R.I.P
Mr. McDonald" sounds as if it
was written during the 1930's. This hip song doesn't take
long to warm right up to ya.
His vocals sound most at home on this number.
All in all this is a pretty consistent effort. I will be
paying close attention to where Patrick Meese goes from here. The guy has some
talent lets hope he surrounds
himself with the right elements to help take him to the
next level.
