Album Review

It would be easy to write this cd off as just "yet another worship cd", riding the wave of the latest musical trend. To do so would be a huge injustice to this excellent work. This is not a rock band playing tired worship standards; this is heart felt music, straight from Mcgee's heart. Basically a collection of songs about worshipping God even in the hard times, the cd was originally recorded as a worship aid for students in his area. thank goodness it is reaching a wider audience. lyrics like "come and make me humble/Lord come, and hear my cry/ oh come, my soul is feeble/ Lord come and mend my heart" are framed by shimmering acoustic guitars and tasteful electric guitar work from the incredible Nick Sabin (sarah groves). Straight ahead rock grooves give this record a fun feel, reminiscent of early Caedmon's Call. A cd every fan of worship music, and in fact, any fan of good music in general should check out. The cd's overall message is summed up by it's closer, Bill Gaither's timeless classic, "because he lives" "because he lives, I can face tomorrow/because he lives, all fear is gone/ because I know he holds the future/ all life is worth the living, just because he lives."
