Album Review
With the release of his debut project "And So It
Is..." Jontez gives us a hint
of what's about to come with a snapshot of him on the
cover of the album. I'm not
sure what to think of the look on his face, but it makes
me want to explore the
album to see where that look is coming from.
Jontez brings a nice hip hop flow on "Alright"
Their is a subtle coolness
to the track that is so appealing. Jontez exudes
so much presence with his
words and his use of skill. "I Am" is another
flash point, that has a nice
comfortable groove that makes you want to dance. I think
I would have liked
"That's What You Said" a lot more if he toughened
up the beats.
On some songs he tries to hard. I would have to say that
is the downfall
to this collection of songs. But still I admire his
effort. He is only going
to get better. I can't wait to hear it, when he comes
through with the goods.
At times I think too much is going on through out some of
the songs. Jontez needs to
find that balance between letting loose and building
towards high points. The
songs that don't strike me are the ones that don't build
towards anything. Like
the song "ThatsWhat You Said" The stale beat at the
beginning just pushes you
away.
I think Jontez has great vision. Throughout it all,
Jontez's musical skill is
impressive and most of this long, 12-track album is quite
pleasurable. He may be
just a little off on this one. But I'm willing to bet next
time around he will
deliver a bombshell of a disc. With all that has been
said. Buy this album if
you are into R&B. You will find many songs that you will
appreciate.
