Album Review
When
it comes to describing this band - and particularly this
album - I simply can't find the words! After their
self-titled debut, I was hooked. But this one blew my mind
(almost literally - I turned the volume up too loud!). I've
been in Christian music retail, and Christian radio (hosting
a rock show), and I've NEVER heard a better overall band.
There's not a single track on this album that let's you
down. From the opening line and first off-kilter rifs of
"Con-Con" to the grooviest remake of Moody Grape's
"Murder"... your feet will never stop tapping! (or, if
you're a drummer like me, your whole body won't stop playing
along!) The blend of voices and instruments is seamless and
intimate as much as it is vivid and pulsing. Stephen
Murray's vocals are more than impressive: he conveys the
whole spectrum of emotions with such intensity and honesty,
you can relate to every note and word. Troy Deaton's lead
guitar is impeccable... I love the solo/duet with the bass
on "Slow"! Tok's bass is smooth, like a nice chilled Dr
Pepper. And driving them all is Shane Atkinson, easily one
of the top 5 drummers in rock today - Christian or
otherwise! The music is flawless, the emotion is raw, the
message is undeniable.... this is the Christian life as it
is, with all its ups and downs....
