Adam Again
Contemporary Christian music producer and musician
Gene Eugene has led the Adam Again project since 1986. Adam Again has
an exceptional talent for combining guitars, bass, and vocals into
this hooky, loopy thing that wears out the repeat on the CD player.
Adam Again, an alternative rock act from Southern
California, anticipated the synthesis of rock and funk to be later
expressed by groups like the
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Spin
Doctors, etc. The band consists of Gene
Eugene (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Riki
Michele (backing vocals), Paul
Valadez (bass), and John
Knox (drums). Saxophonist Dan
Michaels was a full-time member for the first album but has only
sporadically appeared as a guest since then. Group leader Gene
Eugene is also a talented producer in Christian alternative
music.

Album Review
This particular live recording is a tribute to Gene Eugene who had passed away, and is a legacy of his talent. As a rule, live recordings have a bit of a tinny, raw sound, and this is no exception. However, the music fits the live atmosphere and works quite well. You get the feeling you're there in the club, and it adds to the experience nicely.
The music itself is quite good, the first 3 numbers have a very funky,
bluesy feel, reminiscent of The Pat Travers Band (for those in the know), and the remainder of the tracks seemed in the vein of mid-seventies Neil Young, with the distorted, smoky crash-chords. What I like about this
particular recording is the fact that you can feel every member...there's no mistaking the fact that it's a tribute done with love. Additionally, there's a bonus studio track at the end that provides a wonderful cap for this CD. Terrific production and a wonderful song...leaves you wanting more, as it should be.
If this weren't enough, there's an additional CD of band member Greg
Lawless, a recording of acoustic guitar and vocals, that feels very
personal, sounds wonderful, and puts one in the mood for low lights and
introspection. A nice treat!
